The Department of Optometry trains opticians with hands-on skills in administering eye exams as well as in the prescription, preparation, and processing of optical lenses including glasses, contact lenses, and frames. Every year, the department offers free eye exams and reading glasses for senior citizens in the region as part of the students' volunteer work. In 2011, this program was recognized for its community service. Choonhae students have a high pass rate of the National Certification Exam for Opticians including a 100% pass rate at the 27th and 35st exams. At the 2023 National Optometry Conference, Choonhae received its ninth consecutive excellent thesis award. With an optician or optical technician license, graduates can work at optical centers, ophthalmologists' offices or even establish their own optical businesses.
